They call it a halo setting

No, that's not my ring. But it is very pretty.

I was at Costco again...and drifted over to the jewelry case.

I don't know what it is about me and my fascination with diamonds. You can refuse the diamond culture in Provo and then discover yourself wondering about it ten years later.

Not too long into our new situation, Awesome and I had a conversation, where we reaffirmed it is more important to buy a house than a diamond. And, also I learned that it is going to be hard for Awesome to buy me a diamond. Apparently guys measure each other based on the rock the wife is wearing. So much better not to play the game.

Most the engagement rings in the case this time were halos. I was surprised. The first I'd ever heard of halos was on Pricescope earlier last month. But then, less than ten years ago I was so fascinated by the Tiffany Lucida, and now I wouldn't want one.

I wonder what it is like to have a diamond ring for many years. It would help me know what would be worth buying, if any would be worth getting at all.

If it makes any difference, I am still as in love with my emerald cut diamond in the Tiffany setting as I was 11 years ago.

It DOES make a difference. cool. I've been asking some of my IRL friends, since I wrote this, what they think about their engagement rings now. Usually they mention something dismissive about their own rings, probably because I'm asking a practical question. Or because it's good Chinese manners, keeping away the evil eye.

Emerald-cut diamond, that sounds pretty amazing. I'd much rather live in the universe where an emerald-cut diamond would never be a bore, so it's good to hear that's out there.

My closer friend says I should get one, because my good feelings about my marriage will always make the ring great to me, no matter what other thoughts might come about size or style.

I'm working up my nerve to visit the jewelry store. Research trip.

hey-- I have a Lucida setting (but it's a knock-off). I guess I'm passe. Oh well, I never was one of the cool girls.

The Lucida-style setting was THE cool setting through 2005. I hate to be the one to break it to you, but you ARE one of the cool girls, Shelah.

Some people say the Lucida was introduced because it is a more graceful setting for the larger carat stones.
